This tour will guide you through the history of Venice by an articulated visit of its two fundamental centers: the political and commercial hearts of Venice, San Marco and Rialto. You will visit the Doge’s Palace, for centuries the heart of the political, and administrative life of Venice but also the official residence of the Doge. You will be taken through its ancient state rooms, you will cross the Bridge of Sighs to explore the historic Venetian prisons. You will visit the Basilica of St.Mark which was the State Church of Venice and the Doge’s private chapel: it was erected to host the relics of St. Mark the Evangelist, and was embellished over the centuries with eastern fine marbles and golden mosaics. The tour proceeds with a 15 minutes walk through the Mercerie to Rialto, which was one of the most important commercial center of Europe in the past centuries.
